This is probably my 2nd last candle review for a while. I have already written both reviews (this one and the one to be up tomorrow) and doing some tweaks here and there before posting them up. Boy, am I glad I wrote them already because right now, I’ve got this nasty flu and sore throat, I can’t smell anything. I’m trying out Leftose, medicine recommended by the pharmacist and keeping my fingers crossed.
I digress. Today, I’m reviewing Candy Cane Lane, a candle from Yankee Candle. My sister gave me this candle for my birthday. It’s a new scent for the Christmas season so I was excited to try it out as Shawn (Hearth and Soul), my favourite candle YouTuber, gave it a thumbs up.
In case you’re wondering, this is what the candle looks like.
As you can see, I’ve already burnt it. I’m not going to lie and say that I know all about candles because I don’t. I only started burning candles this year so a lot of things I simply learn from YouTubers. They’ve done reviews on this candle so I’m not going to regurgitate to you all the stuff that I learnt from them. This will be entirely my opinion.
Yankee Candle is pretty new to me. I’ve only finished a large jar of Fluffy Towels and the rest I’m still burning so I can’t compare the quality of the candle to how it was used to be.
I’ve no subtle way to say this so I’m going to straight out state that this candle sucks.
I cannot smell a thing unless I put my nose near the candle. So my sister paid $31.90 (USD25.52) for an unscented candle. Lol. Better her than me. ( ̄(工) ̄)
There is a 20% discount because it’s a festive candle on sale. Original price was $39.90 (USD31.92) and still is for most non-Christmas scents. Candles are selling for way too expensive here.
After leaving it burning in more than 5 hours in an enclosed room, (I left for work but mum was at home so not really a fire hazard) and when I opened the door, I could finally smell the peppermint candy cane smell. Blew out the candle and within half an hour, the scent was gone. Can’t believe I bothered with it at all.
The scent itself is just like a candy cane. I remember when I was a child, my sister and I pestered our mum to buy us a candy cane each and it tasted disgusting.
I’m Asian so it could be due that we have different preference for candy. It’s weird because before I ate that candy cane, I imagined them to taste like sweet vanilla and bubblegum. I know. I’m weird like that.
Anyways, from then onwards, I realized that I hated the taste of peppermint. So this candle brought back memories of my first candy cane. Laughs.
It smells alright, I don’t mind the scent of peppermint, just didn’t like the taste of it. I didn’t smell any chocolate unlike what some of the other reviewers were saying. Just some peppermint and vanilla.
I don’t recommend getting this candle at all. The label is festive and beautiful so the jar will look good in the house, but even for someone who don’t mind a mild scented candle like me, this candle is too weak. I will finish burning it and never buy it again.
End of this post and the candle review tomorrow will be a good one so it’s not all bad. ^_^
