Dermal Therapy Heel-Magic

Just a few months ago, I’d noticed that the skin on my legs were very dry and under scrutiny, little tiny wrinkles can be seen. Now, that is something caused by ageing and a good deal of neglect on my part. I’ll be the first to admit that I hardly ever put moisturiser on my body.

Every single night, after showering, all I wanted to do is to curl up in bed to read a book. =_= And some of the body butters are too oily/sticky, it makes me uncomfortable and that hardly is a good recipe for a good night’s rest.

But I’ve made it a point to incorporate it into my nightly routine to slather on some body lotion straight after my facial skincare routine. I made sure to avoid using body butters. After a few days, it has become a good habit rather than a chore and it has made a huge difference to my skin so I strongly urge everyone to do the same.

As I was saying, during my nightly moisturizing routine, I’ve noticed that my heels are dry but regular moisturizer simply does not work as well on heels. Has anyone tried heel creams before? They are oily, sticky, very messy to walk in, and especially difficult to wash off the hands. In other words, they are a NIGHTMARE to use.

So when I saw Dermal Therapy Heel-Magic in Watsons, I grabbed one.

It is a roll-on stick so I no longer need to get my hands dirty. Thank god for the genius that invented this because I can’t stand oiliness on my hands. It creeps me out and if I use a heel cream, I always have to wash my hands thrice with hand soap to remove everything.

A close up of the description..

20130610-232719.jpg

I’ve used it for about a week and then some now, and it is every bit as oily as any other heel cream out there. After applying, it is necessary to wear indoor slippers or you will either slip and break your neck, or die from exhaustion from having to mop the floor everyday.

20130610-232659.jpg

It cost a whooping $15.50, very expensive indeed for a heel cream. However, if you find heel creams disgusting to touch, then roll on sticks are a godsend.

However, I’m not sure that I will repurchase this though as the stick does not roll up properly.

NLB Book Exchange 2013

This happened on the 18th of May, about 4 weeks ago. Well, since nobody can participate until next year, I thought it doesn’t matter when I write this as long as I write it before the book exchange next year.

A few days prior to the book exchange, May (one of my student’s mum), told me about the book exchange and so I packed about 40 over old books and brought them to the library at Westmall to exchange them for coupons. The coupons would be used on the 18th to exchange for the books that I want. However, all the libraries in Singapore have stopped collecting books for the exchange. If I wanted to participate, I would have to go down to the Central Public Library in Bugis. Yes, so I lugged 40 over books in an auntie trolley to Bugis.

On the event day, May’s husband offered to drive us there. May wanted to beat the crowd and pick out the books she really wanted so being the first few in the queue would give her an advantage. They picked Shortcake and I up at 4.15am. YES, 4.15AM. And the bunch of us arrived there dark and early, to catch the security guard sleeping while on duty.

20130610-000941.jpg

Of course we were the first ones there. It was a good 1 hour plus before another person arrived. She took the taxi to chop place for her friends.

20130610-001106.jpg

We started to chop places by queuing with our auntie trolleys. I didn’t have one so I borrowed mine from another student’s mother.

20130610-001139.jpg

By the time it was 7am, the queue had stretched all the way back till we could no longer see the end from where we were. I don’t regret going over so early to queue, but it was very embarrassing when the news crew asked if they could interview us and take our photos. We didn’t agree but if you watched the news that evening, you might have seen us there. We told them we started queuing at 6am so that we don’t appear so kiasu, and that next year, nobody would try to be as early as us. I don’t want to wake up at 3am.

These are the books that I picked. I’ve managed to grabbed some books from the Shopaholic series, the book from the Taxi driver guy who had a famous blog in Singapore and then some comics and other novels. They have basically everything from Dan Brown, Sandra Brown, Anne Rice, Nicholas Sparks, Stephen King, anything really.. Even books for children.

I will definitely participate again next year. Shortcake was telling me that I should have gotten more of the Dan Brown and Sandra Brown novels. I took some but put them back as I already have them in my ebook.

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector

This is my latest favourite face paint that I use everyday and would recommend people to try. I thought I wrote about it before here, but apparently, my memory is failing me.

In the photo below, the bottle on the right is the one that I’m currently using. It is almost all used up. The middle tube was newly purchased in a sale (quite a few months back), I bought it to stock up. Though after a while, I realised that with Garnier, it’s almost always on sale. =_= The tiny one on the left was bought recently in Watsons for $2.

The consistency of the BB cream is watery and easy to apply with fingers. Coverage is surprisingly good and best of all, the colour does not make me look grey. It tends to give a more dewy effect when applied, so setting it with loose powder is necessary. I use it on a daily basis.

I’m not sure if the skincare effects are true, as I always apply moisturiser and sunblock before applying this BB cream.

20130615-160443.jpg

As you can see, the small tube contains 10ml of product while the bigger tube contains 20ml. Normally, travel sized products are more expensive per millilitres, but apparently, you can’t use logic for this one.

20130615-160453.jpg

$2 for 10ml, $12.80 for 20ml. You don’t need to be a math genius to figure out which one is cheaper. I am definitely pissed off that I got them at a more expensive price, even if the marked up price was already very affordable.

FYI, I bought the small tube at the Watsons store in Jurong Point. Not all Watsons stores carry the same small travel sized products so it is interesting (at least for me) to shop at all the different Watsons stores.

Olay Pro X Advanced Cleansing System

I have been using the Olay cleansing brush for more than two weeks and here are my thoughts.

It cleanses my face thoroughly and the skin feels clean without being overdrying. The brush set came with a small tube of Olay facial cleanser, but you can pair it with any facial wash. FYI, I’ve tried it with a scrub (which was too abrasive), Cetaphil (which left an oily residue on my brush and I had to clean it with soap twice), and also Heme foaming facial cleanser which seems to work best for me as I feel that the brush can glide better on my skin.

Some photos of the product..

After cleansing, I noticed less blackheads on my chin and nose, but it does not completely remove them. On the whole, I’ve experienced less breakouts and my skin seems to absorb serum and moisturizer better. A word of caution though, it will aggravate existing acne so I would suggest to avoid using them directly on acne spots. And also to only use them at most once a day or it would make the skin sensitive.

Bought it from Little Tots, an online store in Qoo10.sg for $43.90. Depending on what you compare it with, $43.90 can be cheap or too expensive. Well, obviously there are many cheap facial brushes selling online for less than $20. Try them if you are so inclined, but I’m happy with paying a little bit more for something that is tried and tested by many. It is cheap if you compare it with Clarisonic, but I don’t think it is fair to compare them as they are vastly different products.

This is definitely a good buy and hopefully it will last for a long time so that I won’t need to repurchase any time soon.

P.s. The brush head needs to be replaced every 3 months, a box of 2 brush heads cost $21 to $24.

Warm Bodies

Short book review on a book I’ve recently read.

It’s Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion.

20130610-013202.jpg

Printscreened the photo on my phone.

It was also made into a movie and I first got to know about it when I saw the advertisements for the movie. Then, I watched a YouTube video by Michelle Phan recommending this book so I bought it on Kobo.

To sum up the whole book, it’s about a zombie who changed and slowly became alive because he fell in love with a girl after eating her boyfriend’s brains.

Forgive me if I think that it’s a little hard to accept. Morbid really. Is it true love from the zombie or just an effect from eating the boyfriend’s brains?

The delivery of the story is great, but the plot fell a little short. (; ̄ェ ̄)All they did was fall in love with each other and problem solved. What kind of plot is this?!

I’m left feeling rather disappointed especially after all the hype this book has garnered.

Not worth the money.

P.s. As for the movie, I would definitely try to watch it. I’m curious about how they would portray the inner thoughts of R (the zombie).

Thanks

This post is about the good things in my life.

While bad things happened to me today, I realised that I have a lot of good things to be thankful of in life. Instead of recounting what happened to me in words here, which will make me angry again once I recall it, I shall feel thankful and be glad that at least that poison is out of my life.

On days that I am feeling bad, I am glad that I have friends to pour out my sorrows to. Sometimes I take things for granted even though I’m trying not to, so thank you to people who listened to my rants and made me feel better.

Thank you Universe, for the things that makes me laugh on gloomy days. Actually, more specifically, “Thank you Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady for giving the world ‘The Big Bang Theory’.” It has been my go-to instant pick-me-up. Works every single time.

Finally, a huge THANK YOU to the asshole with low E.Q. You made me feel like I’m a better person than you are. Even though you need a lesson in parenting, I had the grace not to point it out in your face. Gotta give me a brownie point there. Ellen Degeneres did say that affirmation is essential and good for everyone.

Oh, and good job for firing the tutor 4 months before PSLE. Let’s hope your daughter really doesn’t need my help though we both know that’s not true. ^_^

LUSH Cosmetic Warrior

Here’s a post written last month that mysteriously ended up in my blog’s “Trash”. I was sure that I clicked on “Publish” instead of “Delete”. Weird huh? Finally finished my entire tub of Cosmetic Warrior facial mask from LUSH and I’m having mixed feelings about it.

20130508-230933.jpg

It cost me $25 for 75g. Frankly, that’s rather expensive, especially for something that has such a short expiry date. The expiry date was about two weeks away from the day I bought it. Apparently, that is also the reason why some LUSH in the US don’t carry their facial masks.

The mask itself works pretty well. It is for breakout prone skin and I can testify that it helped to calm down some of my pimples and made my skin less oily the next day. However, the mask smells so bad, I practically had to stop breathing through my nose for the entire ten minutes it took to work.

Initially, I had no idea why as I had taken the mandatory sniff test in the store before purchasing and it smelled like tea tree oil to me. When I took a closer look at the ingredient list though, the top ingredient was garlic. I hate garlic!! The strong scent at the LUSH Store must have masked the garlic smell. x_x

I’m sure I’ll repurchase it again since it worked so well for me. Because of the strong smell, I won’t use it regularly, only when my skin acts up. I would recommend it for people oily skin that are experiencing breakouts.
