Beauty Look 卡哇伊 美妆蛋

I’ve been wanting one of this for quite some time now. A few years ago, there was this craze for gourd-shaped sponges with a pointy tip. It’s purported to be able to reach all the tiny crooks & corners of a person’s face. However, one sponge cost over twenty dollars & I didn’t want to spend so much on a sponge.

When I saw this in Watsons retailing for $7.90, I’d to get one.

20120825-013736.jpg

It’s obviously a knockoff but I’ve spotted many brands also selling sponges shaped as such, and I don’t think they patented it.

It looks so darling in the box, especially with tinges of pink reflected on the sponge.

20120825-013927.jpg

I’ve to say, this sponge works as advertised. It helps to blend the foundation flawlessly with an airbrushed effect & the tip of the sponge helps to get the sides of the nose and corners of the eyes.

It is also great for putting on cream blushers.

There’s a serious flaw to this product though. It is difficult to clean, almost impossible actually.

This is what it looks like even after washing it four times with shampoo.

Normally with other foundation sponge, one or two washes are adequate to get rid of the gunk. I suspect that this sponge is more difficult to wash because of its shape. The entire sponge is more dense than a regular sponge so I guess the foundation got trapped inside?

The integrity of the sponge will also be compromised if you wash it with too much force. I wouldn’t buy this if I knew how difficult to wash it would be. Don’t buy it.

L’Occintane Limited Edition Hibiscus Flower Hand Cream

20120819-004253.jpg
I love the consistency of the cream & how well it’s absorbed into the skin, not to mention how delicious it smells like. The scent lingers and makes me feel happy all day when I apply it.

With that said, to be completely honest, I think that this tube of hand cream is not value for money. Selling at $33 for two tubes of 30ml hand cream, it’s very pricey.

While L’Occitane also sells larger tubes of this hand cream, I find it impractical. Hand creams need to be easy to carry around as they are applied after you wash your hands.

It would be unsightly to lug around such a big tube of hand cream around, and it’s inconvenient too. If I buy the big tube, it’ll end up exiled to a corner of my beauty closet as it’s easy to forget to apply hand cream before bed.

I use it as a special treat when I’m feeling down. On other days, I use a cheaper hand cream from The Body Shop.

As you can tell, I’ve used up quite a lot of this tube.

If you have dry hands, do pop over to L’Occintane to try their various hand creams. They come in so many different scents and textures, it’s easy to find one that’s just right for you. I’d discovered one in gel type that’s very refreshing, and one in thicker consistency, for dry days in winter.

Testers are free and there’s really no need to feel abashed when you walk in and try without buying. The sales rep does not own the store. That’s what I tell myself anyway.

Recent Purchases

20120818-220244.jpg
Can this be considered a spree even when I didn’t buy all of them in a single shop? The products bought came from The Body Shop, Watsons & Guardian.

And some Lovemore masks.
20120818-225126.jpg

2 boxes for $14, 4 pieces below bought separately. All from Watsons.

I’m especially excited about the Dreams Unlimited Body Wash from The Body Shop.

20120818-221610.jpg

Harmony recommended it to me and she says that the scent lingers on long after shower, so I’m pretty excited to try it.

Initially I went in to The Body Shop to buy a concealer as I’ve ran out of my usual L’Oreal one and encountered a store wide 20% sale. So I bought a lot of things and I didn’t forget to buy my concealer too.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Concealer
20120818-221850.jpg

Will share more on that in another post once I test it out.

Oh, and recently I am using the Aloes range of toner, moisturising gel and cream. Picture below.

20120818-222751.jpg

Bought them on Tuesday and I’ve been using them ever since. I’ll do a post on them in a few days time.

P.s. On the second day of using them, my skin condition improved but I want to test it out for a full week first before writing a review. Can never be too cautious with skincare products.

Last of all, I’m obsessed with only shampooing my hair once every two to three days. It sounds icky, but I truly believe that this helps to improve the condition of my hair and believe it or not, shampooing once every three days is very common. Ehem..

So I’ve included two TRESemmè hair products. A waterless foam shampoo and a dry shampoo. Picture of them below.

20120818-223744.jpg

It would be truly awesome if they work.

That’s all for this post. I reckon it’s a spree post, with a whole lot of ramblings on my part.

Tohato Caramel Corn

Tiny packets of Tohato Caramel Corn.

20120816-014007.jpg

4 small packets for $2 at Daiso.

They’re the perfect size to carry in my bag to snack on during lessons. And are also great rewards for students who do well in mini quiz.

*P.s. Note that the packets have different faces!!

No cracked heels (Part 2)

I’d mentioned in an earlier post that wearing socks while sleeping helps to relieve cracked heels. Here are some other steps that I take to keep my heels smooth.

The foot file

20120814-010010.jpg

This used to be my favourite tool. It helps to file away the dead skin fast, and works best on dry skin. However, I came to realise that the calluses grow back very fast when I use the foot file.

An article that I came across later on explained that when using the foot file, the dead skin are exfoliated unevenly, so this causes the calluses to grow faster.

The best way to exfoliate the heels is to use a pumice stone in a circular motion after softening the skin with water.

Nowadays, I only use the foot file if my heels are very dry and I always follow up with a relaxing foot soak and then exfoliate with a pumice stone again to get rid of the uneven dead skin from the filing.

The pumice stone that I’m currently using.

20120814-010731.jpg

It has got a dent!!

20120814-011231.jpg

The stone exfoliated my feet, or my feet exfoliated the stone? The poor pumice stone looked like it might break any time.

I bought this at Daiso and use it for foot soaks.

20120814-011633.jpg

After adding in warm water into the “shoes”, I break off a piece of LUSH bubble bar and put it into the “shoes” and soak my feet in them. I’m currently using Amandopondo and it smells delicious!!

Mind you, this pair of “shoes” may look ridiculous, but they work effectively. Over the years, I have bought quite a few tubs to use for foot soaks, but none of them were easy to wash.

The foot massager was especially a pain to wash. I had to make sure that the electric socket do not come into contact with water, and all the grooves inside had to be brushed thoroughly to ensure that no mildew grows on them. All in all, not quite the relaxing foot soak I was looking forward to after a long day at work.

After the foot soak and pumice stone exfoliating, I rinse off and follow up with a moisturiser. Most days, I pick one of these babies.

20120814-082415.jpg

I cannot resist fruity scents. With that said, I no longer use them to moisturise my whole body as I do not like the sticky and oily feeling of these moisturisers. They are now my feet moisturisers since I wear a pair of socks over them to sleep, it doesn’t feel as terrible.

The last step is to wear a pair of socks. I try to find the ugliest possible pair.
(⌒▽⌒)

20120814-084249.jpg

However, if you have a habit of walking around the house, like I do, (e.g. The toilet before bed) then the socks will become dirty and you wouldn’t want to get into bed in those dirty socks.

So I wear a pair of bedroom slippers over my socks. It looks ridiculous but it works and that’s all that matters.
(^ω^)

20120814-084345.jpg

I slip them off before going to bed in snuggly clean socks. ^_^

So these are my tips for getting a pair of baby soft feet.

1) File your feet with a foot file if you have a lot of calluses and very little patience.

Skip the above step if you exfoliate regularly or wear shoes all the time.

2) Soak your feet with your favourite foot soak for at least 15 minutes.

3) Exfoliate with a pumice stone in a circular motion.

4) Apply moisturiser.

5) Wear socks.

6) Wear bedroom slippers if you don’t go to sleep immediately after your shower. I know I don’t.

It may seem like a lot of work but compared to getting unsightly, not to mention painful bleeding heels, I think it’s worth it. I have worked it into my routine now so it’s more like a habit than work now.

Hope that this post is of help to you!!

Harmony’s Birthday Dinner at FullHouse Singapore

Long overdued post on Harmony’s birthday celebration. =p We went to FullHouse for dinner. It’s a restaurant that Pearlyn suggested for it’s nice interior decoration, so that we could camwhore. (≧∇≦)

Here are some photos we took that day.

The birthday girl!!
20120812-232546.jpg

I’m mad jelly of her nose!! Why so straight and small?! And she’s so photogenic too!! (。-_-。)

20120812-232620.jpg

The food was quite meh but we went there to camwhore so the food wasn’t really important. I rather enjoyed the dinner. It had been a long time since I last sat down and unwind with friends.

I’m not good with chit-chatting & making small conversation. To be honest, I do find it quite stressful to talk to people, especially one to one. Maybe I’m just odd that way, huh?

With friends though, sitting down listening, chipping in occasionally just puts the stress out of talking. Maybe I just need better inter people skills.

No cracked heels (Part 1)

Photo of my feet, snuggly encased by a pair of warm socks after applying moisturiser.

20120812-021424.jpg

Summer meant that sandals and flip flops become the popular go-to footwear. Wearing flip flops often results in cracked heels and dry feet. It’s inevitable, especially for those who wear flip flops all the time.

So I save my feet by exfoliating them (more about that in the next post, I’m lazy to take photos of the tools I use.) and then moisturise and wear a sock to sleep. Works like a charm. (^O^)

National Day

Happy National Day!!

20120809-235429.jpg

Wore red polo to celebrate the occasion. ( ^ω^ )

It’s been awhile since my last post. I had tried to post an entry on the latest Batman movie but it got stuck.

20120809-235720.jpg

Perpetually uploading. -.- And I couldn’t even edit that post. I did type a lot so it’s not an option to delete the entry away.

Purchases

Bought Watsons brand of hair mask as they had a one for one promotion.
20120804-013944.jpg

I have not tried them yet. They cost $7.90 for two 500ml tubs. Very cheap but I hope that they’ll work on my very dry hair.
