Furby Boom 2013 & Party Rocker

A short post before I go back to playing with May Boo.

20130828-162328.jpg

I bought a Furby Boom and a Furby Party Rocker.

With my own money.

So when I’m done with them, you can be sure that my review is going to be honest.

Going on a tangent here: It gets on my nerves when I try to google a product’s review before a purchase and all the results shown on the first few pages are sponsored reviews.

Ehem. Laneige. Ehem.

Anyways, my Furby’s name is May Boo and I’ve been so preoccupied with playing with it that I haven’t had the time to start playing Plants vs Zombies 2. σ(^_^;) And I had been so excited about it too. =p

New nail polishes from Essence and Revlon

A mini haul from Watsons.

20130823-225728.jpg

Most excited to try the nail polishes from Essence and also those colour changing nail polishes from Revlon.

I haven’t been posting much here since I do get carried away when I start reading new novels. The last entry posted and this entry as well, was written yesterday when I’d finally finished a novel.

^_^ That’s all for today. Many reviews that I feel like writing and hopefully will get around to doing that before getting distracted again.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Lotion

I seldom use Neutrogena products. Most of the time, I would pick out Japanese brands rather than European/American brands when choosing skincare products because I believe that they’re more suitable for Asian skin.

With that said, I must have been in a rare adventurous mood that particular day to buy the Neutrogena Deep Cleansing Lotion.

20130823-213944.jpg

Say hello to a $20.10 complete waste of space.

Despite the name “Deep Clean”, I wasn’t really expecting much of it. All I wanted it to do was to remove the surface makeup and I would follow up with another cleanser to get all the dirt after.

But even that was expecting too much.
( ̄ー ̄)

20130823-214413.jpg

Just in case you can’t see the words clearly, it says “Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Lotion thoroughly cleans and removes all types of make-up, even waterproof mascara and long-lasting lipstick, plus other skin impurities that can accumulate in your pores.

First of all, it does NOT remove waterproof mascara, at all. It stings the eyes.

Also, as mentioned in one of my previous post, I use my Olay Pro X Cleansing System at the end of the day after removing my makeup. And it truly is horrifying to find the brush turning a slight tinge of beige. Goes to show that the Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Lotion wasn’t a very deep clean afterall.

By the way, I’ve used my Olay Pro X after removing makeup with my Heme foaming makeup remover and it did not show any makeup residue on the brush.

$20.10 is rather expensive for a 200ml makeup remover that doesn’t work effectively. Save your money and as for me, I definitely would never repurchase.

Is this a Neutrogena marketing ploy to say exactly the opposite of what the product does? I remember when their Helioplex series of sunscreen came out in Singapore, I bought one as it’s labels said that it is ultra sheer and does not sting. Turned out to be super heavy on the skin, left an oily sheen on the face, AND stings like a mother.

Next time, I think I’ll just stick with my few favourite brands.

Benefit Sugarlicious Cheek & Lip Kit

Last month, I’d discovered that despite what other people say about how their Benefit blushers last forever, mine got mouldy when it was about to pan. I swear it was such a shock, especially when I’d seen YouTube reviews by people who said that theirs lasted for years, while mine was only about 18 months old.

I liked Sugarbomb so much that I decided to get the Sugarlicious Cheek & Lip Kit from Benefit. Not only does it have a small sized Sugarbomb, the kit also contain a small bottle of Benetint and High Beam, products that I’ve always wanted to try.

20130822-011638.jpg

That was back in end July, and I’d only used Benetint twice, both times rather unsuccessfully as I can’t seem to apply without adding too little or too much. I’m so glad I got the kit because I’m not sure I’ll ever finish using the normal sized products before their use-by date.

Therefore, for people who are trying Benefit products for the first time, I feel that they should get one of the kits and try several products in one go.

By the way, this is just my random thought and not a review. Can’t review yet since I’ve yet to try High Beam or the lipgloss.

“Shit My Dad Says” by Justin Halpern

It’s been a while since I’d done a book review. I’d actually finished this book quite a while back and picked it up to re-read again recently.

20130806-031245.jpg

Bought it for $6.59 on Kobo.

It’s funny yet insightful. Makes good light reading material. I would definitely recommend it to people who likes a good laugh.

However, for a book that I could finish reading in a couple of hours, I’m not sure it is worth $ 6.59. That’s entirely up to your own discretion, of course. I just tell myself that I can always read it many times. (>人<;)

By the way, I’ve been reading daily, so I’ve finished quite a few books but haven’t found the motivation to write book reviews.

Soap & Glory The Breakfast Scrub

I’ve always been a huge fan of scrubs. The grainy, gritty exfoliating bits just leaves behind this extra clean feeling and soft skin, especially on the elbows and feet. For a long time, my favourite was the St Ives Apricot Scrub, until The Breakfast Scrub came along.

When I found myself reaching for it more often than my apricot scrub, it was then when I knew that I had to blog about it here.

Photo taken on the day of purchase.

20130805-001241.jpg

I bought this scrub in July and it’s already half used up.

20130805-002713.jpg

The maple scent smells so delicious, it’s food for the nose.

The exfoliating grains in the scrub feels like sugar grains (maybe they are) and are bigger than any other scrubs I’ve used. Mind you, larger grains does not necessarily exfoliates better. It just feels different. In fact, the chunky bits would be too harsh for people with sensitive skin.

To be completely honest, the scent was the main reason why I liked it so much. Overall, a decent scrub with a nice scent.

However, it’s a tad pricy at S$24 from Sephora Singapore. I would definitely think twice before making a repurchase, especially when DIY body scrubs are so easy to make.

P.s. I didn’t bother to scoop out the scrub every use. I did the 1st few times, until I realised that the tub wasn’t going to last long enough to matter, at the rate I was using it. =p

Plants vs Zombies (Chinese version)

Days ago, I think it was on the 19th of July, I tried to find Plants vs Zombie 2 on the App Store but it’s launch date had been pushed back. However, I found something interesting when I searched “Popcap”.

It’s the Chinese version of Plants vs Zombies!! Also known as “植物大战僵尸" in Chinese.

I remember that I wrote a post here about how I would totally dig a hopping Chinese zombie and there it was, all along, in the App Store. So I screamed “Take my money!!” and downloaded the app.

Placed right beside the regular Plants vs Zombies in the “Fav Games” folder.

20130803-012429.jpg

Popcap has a Chinese name. If you direct translate, wouldn’t it be “爆帽”?! Lol.

20130803-012614.jpg

20130803-012631.jpg

From the starting page, Chinese version has an extra “中国馆”.

20130803-013437.jpg

Which if you click on, will bring you to 4 different endless mode. Yes, FOUR endless mode as compared to one in the regular PvZ.

The zombies that appear are clad in Chinese attire. In my opinion, what completes the game, is the hopping zombie with an amulet stuck on its head. Freaking awesome~

20130803-014049.jpg

One drawback though, is that the endless modes are just add-ons and the regular levels are exactly the same as the normal PvZ.

It is necessary to clear the regular mode in order to unlock some plants for use, which frankly speaking, is a chore. I’ve played the regular PvZ back to back at least three times (not to mention the laptop version), plus unlocked all the extra games, plus collected all the plants in the Zen Garden. Let’s just say that it is boring for me to have to play everything all over again in order to unlock the plants I want to use.

All in all, I would recommend people to try the Chinese version for the extra endless mode, especially so for 1st time players to just skip the regular PvZ and just get this.

Etude House Ice cream Cone Nail Polish

The title is too long but it’s 1.40am now and I’m too tired to think of a shorter title.

Recently, I bought two new bottles of nail polish from Etude House. They’re shaped like ice cream cones and I hadn’t been inclined to buy them until I saw a YouTube video by Jen (frmheadtotoe) and she was raving about hers.

Colour code for the bottle on the left is OR201, on the right is OR202.
20130802-015553.jpg

They cost $3.90 each. Or was it $3.30? Anyway, they cost $3+ each.

Both colours are very summery and I couldn’t decide which one to get so I bought both.

Here’s how they look on my nails.

OR201 is a gorgeous coral pink. Also named as Grapefruit on some websites.

20130802-020602.jpg

OR202 is a pastel light orange. Or Peach on websites selling Etude House nail polish.

20130802-020941.jpg

Obviously Grapefruit looks nicer on me. Due to my skin tone, a lot of pastel colours make my skin look greyish. The colour on the bottle looked a lot less pastel so I would recommend trying them on your nail in the store before buying.

You’ll only need two coats of colour as the nail polishes are very pigmented. However, I find that the quality of the nail polish is not as good. My manicure chipped off within 2 days despite a good base and top coat.

The bottle is low quality.

20130802-021925.jpg

Even before I started using it, the cap is disconnected from the brush. Easy to fix but nonetheless, bad first impression for me. It’s low quality and cheap.

Also, if I had to nitpick, the design of the bottle is a tad off. If it is supposed to be held like a cone, shouldn’t the name “Etude House be printed the other way round?

All I’m saying is that there are a lot better nail polishes out there. The entire collection has only 8 colours and they are all very common colours that you can find in other brands easily.

$3.90 is not expensive, but I can find a nail polish that is half the price yet twice as good. So unless there’s a huge sale, I’m not buying them again.
